    The Position:


    The Director of Employer Outreach is an integral part of the Career Services team, as they are responsible for deepening existing and creating new relationships with legal and JD advantage employers. The Director will be responsible for identifying new and evolving opportunities Cardozo law students and recent graduates.  The Director will communicate and collaborate with the Career Services counseling team on various programming and training efforts and otherwise feed market intelligence into the of the law school community.  This position reports to the Associate Dean of Career Services.


    • Initiate and develop relationships, with legal and legal-related employers, including law firms, corporations, financial institutions and government agencies in order to increase internship and post-graduate opportunities for students and alumni
    • Conduct meetings with employers annually, including general counsel’s offices and legal departments of a variety of corporations, firms of all sizes, and government agencies
    • Research and study job boards to spot trends and to ensure outreach is focused accordingly, and similarly, stay abreast of changes in legal employment trends in targeted geographic regions
    • Work closely with Cardozo faculty to leverage connections for employment opportunities
    • Work with Office of Career Services (OCS) to source appropriate alumni for career related programs
    • Work closely with alumni affairs to i) ensure a systematic and coordinated approach toward engaging alumni and to ii) coordinate resources with respect to alumni outreach calls and events intended to increase the visibility of the school 
    • Collaborate with OCS counselors to identify opportunities based on student strengths, interests and career goals
    • Attend networking events at area bar associations and the law school
    • Maintain and manage contacts history using Symplicity and other relevant databases 
    • Provide reports about meetings with employers to counselors to assist in student and alumni counseling
    • Help collect and report data relating to new graduate employment and industry sectors/employer types
    • Organize and manage annual mock interview and program by leveraging employer contacts
    • Track and measure outreach plan
    • Other administrative duties as required


    Experience and Educational Background:


    • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field is required for the position; however, a JD is strongly preferred
    • A minimum of five years of related outreach and relationship management experience including sales, marketing, advancement and/or senior level recruiting experience is required
    • There is a preference for candidates with significant experience analyzing and interpreting data to drive strategy

    Skills and Competencies:


    • Strong background in high volume relationship management, tracking and engagement
    • Strong knowledge of legal and legal-related job market. Knowledge of market trends and emerging industry sectors a must
    • Proven ability to take initiative, develop and execute new approaches, programs and solutions and multi-task
    • High degree of professionalism and customer-service orientation. Excellent listening skills and follow through
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
    • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to keep current with developments in the legal industry and other industries where graduates have placement potential and in career services best practices
    • Must have flexibility to work hours outside of normal business hours to meet office needs
