The Position:

 

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director manages the daily operation of the Office of Student Services and Advising, has primary responsibility for administering examinations, disability accommodations and course evaluations, and acts as an administrative liaison for students and resource for information and guidance to them. The Director also fulfillthe Dean of Student's responsibilities when they are unavailable.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Director works under daily supervision of the Dean of Students, but meets independently with individual students
  • Responds to occasional requests from the Dean's Office
  • Supervises junior staff member, as well as exam support personnel during the exam periods. Key contacts outside the office are students, Registrar's Office, Vice Dean, Head of the Library, ITS, members of the faculty, and selected vendors
  • Assume primary responsibility for administering all in-school exams with supervision from Dean of Students. This includes: creating memoranda for students and faculty, participating in presentations to students, interacting with faculty, supervising regular and per diem staff, preparing exam materials, utilizing the exam software program, implementing accommodations, handling individual student issues, and streamlining processes
  • Advise students on academic and personal matters. Academic matters include academic planning, understanding law school policies, offering general guidance on class preparation and exams, and referral to academic resources. Personal matters include how to manage the pressures of law school as well as outside challenges that may compromise a student's ability to function to their full potential. Refer students as needed to the Dean of Students, University Counseling Center, or other resources
  • Assist students in applying for reasonable disability accommodations from the University and implement approved accommodations
  • Supervise or administer on-line course evaluation, locker assignment and the updating of the office webpage processes
  • Review student transcripts in conjunction with Associate Dean, and prepare warning, probation and dismissal letters as needed
  • Work in collaboration with other administrative offices on student matters

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Educational Background:

 

  • J.D. required
  • 2+ years related experience

Skills and Competencies:

 

  • Demonstrated interest in working with students in higher education
  • Excellent interpersonal oral and written communication, computer and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage difficult situations with tact, and handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately Extremely organized, with accurate attention to detail, and outstanding ability to prioritize knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, ExamSoft and Ellucian Banner
