    The Position:

    The Director of Fundraising & Marketing Communications reports directly to the Assistant Vice President (for Alumni, Annual Giving, Marketing & Events) and has responsibility for planning, developing and implementing marketing strategies and communication efforts on behalf of the Department of Institutional Advancement. In this role the Director will provide strategic support to the AVP and directly supervise the Digital Communications Associate and IA Writer. The Fundraising & MarCom Director will be the primary liaison between IA and CPA, and the gatekeeper for requests for marketing support for all fundraising activities conducted by IA staff (alumni, fundraisers, etc.). The Fundraising & MarCom Director will also work closely with the IA Events team and Alumni team in the execution of all IA driven programming.


    • Develop a comprehensive marketing plan for the department of Institutional Advancement, with the goal of driving fundraising support and enhancing the university’s image and position within the community and society at large
    • Develop and maintain an editorial calendar which incorporates all key IA events and programs with a corresponding schedule of support
    • Develop and produce all marketing materials (print and digital) to support fundraising activities and efforts, including invitations, programs, flyers, and brochures
    • Design and support templates for key donor relations pieces including thank you letters, insider reports, power point presentations for Board of Trustee meetings, new donor pitches, etc.
    • Develop and design IA’s Case for Support/Giving materials.
    • Own IA’s social media presence, supporting Alumni Managers on related content and curating from other University departments to support IA’s philanthropic mission and to further enhance the University’s image
    • Serve as the key liaison with CPA on behalf of IA, partnering in the development of content for the View from YU and a new YU magazine.
    • Function as part of a cross-functional team, together with the Alumni Director and Events Director to ensure excellence in development, promotion and execution of all fundraising-driven programming.
    • Function in a consultative capacity with FairCom, YU’s Agency of Record for all Annual Giving efforts, to provide marketing and communications support when called upon.
    • Directly supervise the Digital Communications Associate and IA Writer.


    Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree in related field desirable.
    • Minimum 7 + years relevant experience in marketing, communications or public relations with demonstrated success, preferably in the not-for-profit or higher-ed sectors. 
    • Development experience strongly preferred
    • Strong project management skills. Experience overseeing multifaceted efforts – all contributing to IA’s philanthropic bottom line results

    • Expert written and verbal communication skills, keen attention to detail
    • Thorough background in website management and social media management
    • Proven supervisory experience
    • Well organized and flexible
    • Ability to maintain high-level of professionalism
    • Strong “client-service” approach in support of other IA colleagues 
    • Skilled in preparing presentation materials (PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Strong knowledge of MS Office
